    Abstract

Labor pain is a universal experience experienced by almost all women, especially during the active phase of the first stage of labor. This study aims to analyze the effect of deep breathing relaxation on pain levels in the active phase of the first stage of labor. This quantitative study used a pre-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design. A sample of 18 respondents was selected using purposive sampling from the population of women giving birth at Taman Husada Bontang Regional Hospital from March to May 2023. Pain was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after a 10-minute deep breathing relaxation intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a significant reduction in pain levels after the intervention (p<0.05). Before the intervention, 50% of respondents experienced severe pain, while after the intervention, 50% experienced moderate pain. It was concluded that deep breathing relaxation is effective in reducing the intensity of labor pain in the active phase of the first stage of labor.
